Cable Weights
We
have a great deal of practical experience in marine magnetic surveying and this
has lead us to develop our own cable weights that can provide the downward force
necessary to make the magnetometer tow-fish run at a predefined depth. When a
magnetometer is towed at depth, the tow cable will vibrate as it drives
through the water due to the well known vortex shedding effect. This vibration
or strumming, increases the drag on the cable forcing the tow-fish backwards and
upwards. By adding weights directly to the cable sufficient down force is
created to overcome the drag. Our cable weights have been designed for minimum
drag while there shape has the added advantage of reducing the cable strumming.
The weight are simple clamped to the cable using the locking bolts provided.
